1 A word of introduction

Jesus used parables to express something very profound. He took examples from everyday life so that people could best understand the meaning of the parables. His parables are timeless and very relevant today.

2 Key words

“What man among you having a hundred sheep and losing one of them would not leave the ninety-nine in the desert and go after the lost one until he finds it?”

Every person is important to God, especially the one who has gone astray, the one who is far away. God leaves ninety-nine people who don’t need help, and looks for one sinner. This is not just a story from centuries ago. It also happens today, and in the places where we live.

“And when he does find it, he sets it on his shoulders with great joy and, upon his arrival home, he calls together his friends and neighbors and says to them, ‘Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep.’”

When God finds a lost person, he doesn’t reprimand them, doesn’t reproach them for their mistakes, but “takes them with joy on his shoulders.” In this way they return home. The beautiful image of the Good Shepherd is so poignant and beautiful that it was painted in places of prayer as early as the first centuries of Christianity, and it is still popular today. Perhaps that’s because each of us at some stage in our lives finds herself or himself in this image.

“In just the same way, I tell you, there will be rejoicing among the angels of God over one sinner who repents”.

This is the personalism of the Lord God, which carries over to the angels, and is an example for each of us. We should also look for even one single person who is lost, “take them on our shoulders with joy” and rejoice at their conversion to God.

3 Today

When did the Lord God find me and “take me joyfully on his shoulders” and bring me home? Do I care about any single person, or am I indifferent? What will I do today to go out and look for someone who is far from God?

1. Unas palabras de presentación

Jesús utilizaba las parábolas para expresar algo muy profundo. Tomó ejemplos de la vida para que la gente pudiera entender mejor el significado de las parábolas. Sus parábolas son siempre actuales y muy relevantes hoy en día.

2. Palabras clave

«¿Quién de ustedes, si tiene cien ovejas y se le pierde una, no deja las noventa y nueve en el campo y va en busca de la que se le perdió hasta encontrarla?»

Cada persona es importante para Dios, especialmente los que se han perdido, los que están lejos. Dios deja a 99 personas que no necesitan ayuda y busca a un solo pecador. No se trata de una historia de hace muchos siglos. También ocurre hoy y en los lugares donde vivimos.

«Y una vez que la encuentra, la carga sobre sus hombros, lleno de alegría, y al llegar a su casa, reúne a los amigos y vecinos y les dice: “Alégrense conmigo, porque ya encontré la oveja que se me había perdido”. »

Cuando Dios encuentra a un hombre no lo castiga, no reprende sus errores, sino que “le carga con alegría sobre sus hombros”. De este modo, vuelven a casa. Esta bella imagen del Buen Pastor es tan conmovedora y hermosa que ya se pintaba en lugares de oración en los primeros siglos del cristianismo y sigue siendo popular hoy en día. Tal vez sea porque cada uno de nosotros, en algún momento de su vida, se encuentra su vida en esta imagen.

«Yo les aseguro que también en el cielo habrá más alegría por un pecador que se arrepiente(…)»

Este es el personalismo del Señor que pasa a los ángeles y es un ejemplo para cada uno de nosotros. También debemos buscar a una sola persona que se haya perdido, “cárgala sobre nuestros hombros, llenos de alegría” y alegrarnos de su conversión a Dios.

3. Hoy

¿Cuándo me encontró el Señor y “me cargó sobre sus hombros, lleno de alegría” y me llevó a casa? ¿Me importa una persona o me da igual? ¿Qué haré hoy para salir a buscar a alguien que está lejos de Dios?
