An unusual ceremony

On Saturday 12 December, 640 unborn children were worthily buried in a cemetery near Warsaw.
“This is not the ‘covid harvest’. These are 640 aborted children who will be buried in Otwock. They will have a dignified burial thanks to the New Nazareth Foundation. Each child wrapped in swaddling cloths will rest in … a grave” wrote Fr Tomasz Białoń in a Twitter on the morning of December 12.
To nie "żniwo covid'u". To 640 abortowanych dzieci, które zostaną pochowane w Otwocku. Będą mieć godny pochówek dzięki Fundacji Nowy Nazaret. Każde dziecko owinięte w pieluszki spocznie w… grobie ? pic.twitter.com/bVkvfOSi7e

In a world that is losing respect for human life, the funeral of 640 unborn children is a sign that goes against the trend.
It stated in 2005, when Ms Maria Bienkiewicz, of the New Nazareth Foundation, took the initiative of organizing the first funeral of the bodies of these children in Poland.
In the same year, at the Holy Family Hospital in Warsaw, directed by prof. Bogdan Chazan for the first time the principles of body care of children who died before birth were elaborated and put into practice. The idea was taken up by other hospitals and updated legal provisions appeared. But dead children are not treated humanly everywhere. In many hospitals their bodies are still stored indefinitely, declared the President of ŻYCIU TAK Foundation.
Again on the initiative of Mrs. Maria Bienkiewicz, an unusual ceremony took place on 12 December in the church of Holy Trinity in Gończyce, close to Otwock, a village about 100 km from Warsaw. 640 coffins containing the bodies of children who died in different periods of pre-natal life, such as stillbirths, miscarriages and abortions were collected from different hospitals, mainly from Warsaw.
His Excellency Kazimierz Gurda, Bishop of the Diocese of Siedlce during the homily of Holy Mass, said: These children have the right to a worthy burial as they are persons from the moment of conception. The right to life is a right that cannot be taken away from anyone, including and above all from a defenceless child in the womb. Whoever has received the gift of life from God has the right to life and has the right to love. Even if their life story ended in a few months, even before they were born, it doesn't mean they ceased to exist. A person's life changes, but it doesn't end. Their life goes on. God has prolonged it for all eternity .
After the funeral Mass, the bodies of the children were solemnly buried in a mass grave in the close by cemetery.

On September 23 of this year, Pope Francis consecrated a bell in Rome made thanks to the initiative of Mr. Bogdan Romaniuk, Vice President of the Association ŻYCIU TAK (Yes to Life) of Rzeszów.
In that occasion the Holy Father said: I will bless the bell bearing the name ‘Voice of the Unborn’, made by the ŻYCIE TAK Foundation. It will accompany events aimed at reminding us of the value of human life from conception to natural death. Let his voice awaken the consciences of law-makers and all people of good will in Poland and in the world. May God, the only and true Giver of life, bless you and your families.
This is why that bell was present at the funeral of unborn children in Gończyce and, at the end of the burial ceremony, Prof. Bogdan Chazan, medical director of the organization of Catholic gynecologists, MaterCare International, invited the Bishop and all the participant to strike the “Voice of the unborn” bell.
