“I am certain that Primate Wyszynski was a prophet and that God assigned him tasks reaching into the distant future and connected with the entire world. The Lord showed him a path that, today and even more so in the future, will prove to be more important for us Poles and soon for the entire world than it was in his lifetime,” said Wincenty Łaszewski, PhD, a theologian, writer, and researcher in Mariological anthropology, in an interview for the weekly Echo Katolickie.

As Dr. Wincenty Laszewski notes, Wyszynski entrusted everything to Mary because he “felt Mary’s touch” in his life. This experience was the most important driving force in his life.

Speaking with Echo Katolickie, Dr. Laszewski reminded us that “the experience of faith is an important theme of the primate’s beatification. Believing is difficult if faith is only a theory and a catalog of commandments. He added that “Wyszynski’s experience taught him about God’s mysteries. He wanted to understand them…”

Dr. Łaszewski emphasized that Cardinal Wyszynski’s mission went beyond the history and borders of Poland.

Already then, when the Primate lived among us, giving our homeland to the Mother of God in slavery greatly changed the world. From the earthly standpoint it is not visible, but from the heavenly perspective Poland then began to pull the strings of the history of all humankind. Anyway, the first visible signs appeared then. The Primate directly spoke about the ‘victory’ and the fact that it would be shared by the entire world. The Church in Poland was not destroyed by the communists, a Pole was elected to the See of Peter, said the Mariologist.

According to Dr. Laszewski, today Wyszynski would call us to return to Christ and His Gospel. He would remind us that the Church (also as priests and laity) cannot seek compromises with the world. He would urge us to be witnesses—to show that as believers we are joyful, happy, fulfilled! He would want us to be the leaven that changes everything around us. He would call for a bold “non possumus” to the relativization of Christ’s teachings. And, as in the past, he would organize great celebrations so that people would see that we are numerous, that “those people are loud, but they are in the minority.” As a politician, he would appeal to democracy and demand that Poland remain Catholic…

When asked about the Church’s future fate, Dr. Łaszewski said that “the Church of holy priests, people dedicated to service, the Church of adoration and prayer will survive. The Church that is satiated, that cares about its privileges, that is rich, genteel, bored, and fearful, that has a comfortable and safe nest in this world and takes its hat off to those who hold power—may it disappear.

The beatification of Cardinal Stefan Wyszynski and Mother Elizabeth Rosa Czacka is scheduled for September 12th. It will take place in the Temple of Divine Providence in Warsaw. Originally, Cardinal Wyszynski’s beatification was scheduled for 7 June 2020, but due to the pandemic the date of the event was changed.
