“The Archdiocesan Church of Barcelona has been trying to put synodality into practice for some time now. Journeying together, asking ourselves questions, and helping each other in the light of the Spirit, is what we are learning to do in the framework of the Diocesan Pastoral Plan ‘¡Salgamos!’ – ‘Let’s go out!’ We want our structures and our organization to be at the service of the mission and communion in order to promote better evangelization,” said Cardinal Juan José Omella, Archbishop of Barcelona, president of the Spanish Bishops’ Conference.
“Journeying together, counting on the help of the other, strengthens us, and it is the most effective and rewarding way to solve problems, to see ways out and, in short, to move forward. This is clearly seen in a family where difficulties and problems are shared and all try to solve them together,” said Cardinal Juan José Omella.
Cardinal Juan José Omella also said, “After the opening of the Synod in the Vatican on October 9th, 2021, there will be distinct phases. From Sunday, October 17th until April 2022, a first phase will take place in which the particular Churches will be consulted, and they will send their conclusions to the respective Bishops’ Conferences, who, in turn, will send them to the Secretariat of the Synod. We will all have the possibility to participate through parishes, institutions, or movements. From September 2022 to March 2023, there will be the phase of work by continents, with international meetings. Finally, this entire process will enter the universal phase that will culminate in the Vatican with the celebration of the XVI Ordinary General Assembly of the Synod of Bishops, in October 2023”.
“Providentially, in our Archdiocese, this synodal process will coincide with the work on the axis of discernment of the Diocesan Pastoral Plan ‘Let’s Go Out!’ The Pope reminds us that we are all invited to this new missionary outing. And he adds that each Christian and each community will discern which path the Lord is asking them to take. We are all called to leave our own comfort zone and go out to meet those who need the light of the Gospel (cf. Evangelii Gaudium, 20)”, recalled the Archbishop of Barcelona.
